Why yarn?

Or “How My Love Affair With Yarn Started.”

As of January 2009, I had been trying to sew for several months.  Last fall when I began, I started a few projects and even finished some of them!  But after weeks of putting the sewing off to do something else, anything else, I decided that sewing was probably not my basket of fruit.

An avid sewing friend of mine introduced me to a forum called Diaper Sewing Divas, and I regularly visited them (still do!). They are a fantastic group of women that I share much in common with. Although most of them sew, some of them do loads of other crafty things as well.  Dawn, one of the moderators whom I’ve gotten to know, posted a picture of a hat that she had crocheted. Seeing that hat was love at first sight!!

I thought, “YES! I want a hat just like that!”  So I tried to figure out how to make one.  After sleuthing around Google a bit, I found a directory that had many crochet patterns, all categorized.  The hat section literally had hundreds of different patterns collected from all over the web.  After browsing the A’s and most of the B’s I decided on this pattern that I thought looked a lot like the original beautiful hat.
